SWANKY SWEDISH FLAT PUSHES THE ENVELOPE ON CREATIVITY

Houzz.com readers had mixed reviews on my latest interview with Swedish artist and blogger, Tina Sindahl. Some loved Tina's ability to create glitz and glamour on a dime, while others couldn't get with Tina's style. Personally, I thought her flat was a great of example of her remaining true to her design aesthetic and cleverly merging modern and eclectic styles.

TWO-STORY DRAPERY INSTALL: THE BEFORE

High'em high and hang 'em wide is my mantra as I prepare to have my family room drapery installed today. It all started back in January when, by default, my husband watched an episode of the Christopher Lowell show and saw the before and after of a two story drapery installation.  You can read about that here...All of a sudden his ears were open to what I had been trying to tell him all along! He being the visual creature that he is had to literally see it for himself before giving the final O.K. Here's what the room looks like now:

And here is the look we want to achieve!

No, not the color palette. He would throw the tantrum of the century if I decorated the family room in purple, HA! I'm talking about the drapery...four simple, pinch pleated panels hung from floor to ceiling.

With much guidance, he chose the fabric and hardware. Here's the lesson: you have to make your partner feel a part of the design process. It will always help you in pushing your design agenda!

So wish me luck friends! No matter how many installs I do, I'm nervous each time. I'll be sure to post pics once the install is complete!

Jamie Drake's Fifth Avenue Apartment

I've been disappointed recently with the selection of TV programming on HGTV and Fine Living Network, so I've turned to the internet to satisfy my design show "fix."  Here is a WONDERFUL video of a space (by Jamie Drake) we've seen circling around various blogs.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.  I decided to write this post so I can always go back to watch it whenever I want!  Now you can too!

Was this house tour awesome or what!?

Tall Tales: The Makings of a Two Story Family Room

On Saturday, by default (he didn't want to look for the remote), my husband watched an episode of Christopher Lowell's show on the Fine Living Network where he designed this two story living room.

Then his grumbling began about our two story family room. We then started to discuss a wish list for the room.

Of course I was already prepared to show him inspiration photos I gathered...I'm way ahead of him on this one!

Before the momentum wore off, I quickly phoned my drapery consultant to come over and give us a price on a simple, contemporary window treatment with this fabric and hardware.

During our meeting, my husband learned these panels are not functional, but strictly for aesthetics.  It's so funny how his thoughts were directed toward function, mine beauty then function! As for the lower windows, I would love to leave them bare, but I think I will be overruled...Oh well, you win some you lose some.  It's funny how this all came about from him involuntarily watching ONE design show...I'm just so happy this project will take place sooner than later.

Tastemaker Tuesday: Lee Kleinhelter

In case you haven't heard of Lee Kleinhelter, I'm sure you have heard of her home decor boutique Pieces, Inc.  in Atlanta.  The blog world as well as publications such as Elle Decor, Cottage Living, InStyle, Lucky and Domino have featured many items from this high-end boutique . And with a boutique known for its "sophisticated and youthful with a bit of Southern Califnornia or Hamptons style," I couldn't wait to get a peek into the owner's new home.  Lee, along with her husband, decorated their condo in Sovereign (a high-end Buckhead high rise) in only two short weeks!  Take a tour of this glamourous, yet family friendly home courtesy of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine.

Enjoy the tour as much as I did? High end design doesn't always have to be so pretentious!
Be sure to check out Pieces if you haven't already! You're in for some serious eye candy.

Smitten by...Barrel Shade Chandeliers

"When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get." - Jim Rohn

I'm usually not one for trends, but every now and then I will be totally captivated by the latest craze. My newest design crush...barrel shade chandeliers. It was love at first sight, or as my cousin would say "I had to clutch my pearls!" The perfect marriage of contemporary and traditional design, these beauties can blow a modest budget in a New York minute.

To obtain the high style you desire, you need to have the TIME or the MONEY. Since right now most of us have more of the former than the latter, click here view instructions on creating a barrel shade chandelier as seen in the image below.

I saw an amazing shade this past weekend (similar to the above) in the wine cellar of the Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle's Christmas House. I was so tempted to take a picture with my camera phone, but unfortunately photos were not allowed. Extremely disappointed, I searched for something to bring to you as a souvenir. AH&L did provide guests with a list of paint colors and techniques used in the show home. The image is a bit fuzzy, but if you are interested in receiving a clear copy, just email a request to: erika{at}blulabelbungalow{dot}com

BLB Atlanta Edition: The 2009 AH&L Christmas House

I wait with great anticipation for the unveiling of the 2009 Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Christmas House! Located in Atlanta's premier Buckhead Community, this year's house benefiting the Alliance Theater for Children is expected to be the most successful Designer Show House ever!
Just check out the impressive floor plan complete with a Guest House.

Suzanne Kasler, one of my favorite Atlanta designers, is one of the many talented designers featured. Here's the interview she gave to the magazine regarding her signature style, her rooms, and Atlanta Design.

AH&L Magazine
has also provided a Product Showcase list for the Christmas House. I quickly spotted a few of my personal favorites. These retailers are excellent sources for design inspiration, too! The Christmas House opens on November 14th and goes through December 6th and is available for corporate and private party rentals! I can't imagine what the cost would be to rent that place. Are any of you planning to check it out?
