SCOUTING ANTIQUES WITH EDDIE ROSS

Sunday I spent the afternoon at Atlanta's Scott Antique Market receiving a crash course in antiques from Eddie Ross! An intimate group of us were lead by the wonderful design wizard and his partner Jaithan Kochar through the South Building full of furniture, rugs, and home and garden accessories.

Eddie admonished us to prepare for shopping trips by knowing the measurements of the space we are designing to ensure we pick appropriate items that fit the space. Another great tip is to bring along fabric samples, especially if you are buying rugs.

There are literally hundred of vendors that carry an assortment of vintage goods such as the collegiate pennants below to old Sotheby's and Christie's auction catalogs.

It didn't take long for me to admit that I'm a little too citified for the expansive collection of taxidermy...eek, but the little salt spoons tickled my fancy!

After the fabulous two hour tour, we said our good byes to Eddie and Jaithan, and blogger friends Tami, Jennifer, Ashley, and Jade. Tami brought along her adorable daughter which made me also look forward to sharing these little adventures with my Ava.

Thanks to Eddie and Jaithan for being such knowledgeable and gracious hosts! Be sure to visit their site so you won't miss the tour when it hits your town!

THE RISE OF THE BLOG

Last Thursday I attended a panel entitled "FROM MAGAZINE TO MONITOR - THE RISE OF THE BLOG" given as part of the SCADStyle series going on through May 6th. The title alone earned an add to my event calendar.  The panelist were Jaithan Kochar, Rita Konig, Nick Olsen, and Eddie Ross, moderated by Richard Mishaan. There are some snaps from the discussion.

In case you didn't know, there is an ongoing debate in the fashion and interior design world on the relevance of blogs. Some industry experts believe bloggers are not qualified to give their opinions or guide consumer choices. They feel that bloggers create noise and more confusion when it comes to consumer buying decisions. As a blogger I love the fact that we are a community of citizen journalist who are exercising our freedom of speech. We often give an unbiased/unpaid opinion of a particular product or service and inspire one other to create beauty around us.

I'm drawn to blogs that have a voice behind them. Don't get me wrong, I love to see beautiful inspiration images, but if you read as many as I do seeing the same images over and over gets old fast.

Here are some thoughts to ponder (sited from Eddie Ross' blog) regarding magazines and blogs:
  • Magazines may be shrinking in number, but the nimble shall survive
  • The best blogs are the most original—and the most authentic
  • Partnerships between the two benefit both
  • Whether you're 18 or 81, if you've thought about blogging as a way to get your name out there, do it. Just be yourself and say something interesting.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS REGARDING THE BIG BLOG DEBATE? ARE BLOGGERS VALID CONTRIBUTORS THE FASHION AND INTERIOR DESIGN INDUSTRIES?

ALL OPINIONS are greatly appreciated!

Eddie Ross Loves A Challenge

Everyone is talking about Bloomingdale's Big Window Challenge and for good reason.  The Wonderful Wizard of Home Decor, Eddie Ross has flawlessly designed the Modern Woman's Living Room for Elle Decor.  The room is inspired by the mix of old and new, classic and modern, and what else but entertaining family and friends.

I've always been a fan of Eddie and grew to love him more when I had a chance to attend his Larson-Juhl Framing Workshop in Atlanta.  It was at the workshop that he gave us a sneak peek into the design concept for the competition.

He and his partner Jaithan are such a wonderful team and have worked hard (but make it look soo easy) to turn his design concept into a reality.
So hurry over to Apartment Therapy to vote for Eddie and view the other windows.  There are two ways to vote for Eddie, choose one listed here...do it now!
